In preparation for the next unit which focuses on politics and government, I gave students a brief lecture on the election process. I was not surprised that many students were not very knowledgeable concerning the subject. We talked about the importance of understanding how the process works and the importance of voting. Although none of my students will be able to vote in this election, they will be able to vote in the 2018 Senate elections and the 2020 presidential election. Now is the time to get students thinking about voting; most importantly, it is essential that they understand the current political climate.
When I was in high school, I could not wait until I was 18-years-old so that I could vote. The 2000 presidential election, Bush vs. Gore, was my first presidential election; it was one of the most contested election in US history. The election was held on November 7, 2000, but the actual winner was not declared until December 12, 2000 after the US Supreme Court stopped a recount in Florida. As a result, George W. Bush was declared the winner. In this case, every vote mattered! Bush won the election by a narrow margin.
After the brief lecture, I conducted a mock election. Here are the results of that mock election: Hillary Clinton came in 1st place, Ben Carson 2nd place, and Donald Trump 3rd place. Students, comment on this post telling who you voted for and why you chose that candidate.
For the mock election, I had chosen Hillary Clinton. The reason why I chose her was because the only two candidates I knew of were Trump and her. I do not want Trump to became president because of the fact he thinks no muslims should come over to the United States. I take that to heart because I have an aunt and two cousins who are from Turkey, muslims, and wish to come to the U.S one day, but with Trump in office that might not happen.
ReplyDeleteFor the mock election, I chose Hillary Clinton. I chose her because she was one of the candidates that I knew of. Also I would love for a woman to be president.
ReplyDeleteFor the mock election, I chose Hillary Clinton as my choice for becoming president. I agree on her views on foreign affairs. Furthermore, I believe that see is the most diverse background for the job of being President. Former Senator and Secretary of State also have strong points on how jobs growth will lead to the economy growing. Also She believe that limiting our guns will lead to less violents. In addition I believe that she will help our economy trend upwards with her knowledge of policies. Next, she don't view foreigners like enemys like some republican (Trump). Lastly it would be nice to see a women as President. She has the credentials.

ReplyDeleteFor the mock selection, i choose Hillary Clinton. Well i choose her because I'm hispanic and she does not look as enemies to foreingners as the republican (Donald Trump) does. However, Hillary Clinton will reduce violency by limitimg guns. Economy could grow as she become the President. Lastly, I know no single woman can make it to The White House by itself, so I would like to see Hillary Clinton as the first woman in presidency.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the mock election conducted by Mr. Rease, I chose Hillary Clinton. As an American Politian, Clinton has devoted much of her life to helping children who are less fortunate than ourselves. After President Obama responded to a war between the Americans and Islam, Donald Trump responded by proposing a plan to completely stop Muslims from entering the United States. However, by trying to eliminate all of the Muslims from America, Trump is generalizing that all of the Muslims will try to bring the United States down from the inside. Not only is this morally corrupt, this is also politically corrupt as doing so contradicts the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution which gives the citizens the freedom of religion, freedom of speech, and freedom of the press.
ReplyDeleteI voted for Hillary Clinton. In my option, she would make a better than Trump because she is not rude, does not insult people on television, and she does not go against what America stands for. America is a place of freedom and Trump does not support tgis because he wants to stop immigrants from entering the U.S.
ReplyDeleteIn the election i chose hillary clinton,i was not there for the actuall voting but if i had to choose i would pick hillary. She was a great candidate against obama stating satistics and facts. Donald trump has no sympothy for imigrants and he clearly shows it. The people should want to keep their freedom thats what our ancestors fought for so lets keep it that way.
ReplyDeleteI as myself, voted for Mr. Donald Trump. I voted for Donald Trump because of his views on the immigration reform and his "no nonsense" stand on muslim extremist. Donald Trump is an excellent businessman who knows how to manage finances, which is imperative to our nation's debt crisis.

I chose Hillary Clinton because of the fact that she has more experience. She was a candidate in the 2008 election, even though she loss. She also was the First Lady as well.
ReplyDeleteFor the mock election that took place in Mr.Rease class , I voted for Hillary Clinton. I voted for Ms.Hillary because she is well qualified for the job. She was first lady for more than 5 years. More reasons I chose Hillary are because she supports gun control , she supports other females and believes in equality , my last reason is she opposes using “religious freedom” to justify cutting access to healthcare and discrimination. Unlike Donald , Hillary isn't over confident in the things she does. In my personal opinion she a better candidate for presidency.
ReplyDeleteI choose Hillary Clinton because she have experience and she already know what will be going on and I think she would be a good lady president
ReplyDeleteFor the mock election I chose Hillary Clinton. I chose Hillary because I feel that she can take on the duties and responsibilities of our country. Unlike Trump, Hillary believes in freedom religion. Which matters in the world today. I also feel like she has expirence because of her husband bring in the White House for 5 years. I will also love to see a woman take on the responsibilities and duties that the past presidents who were men did. I feel that she gives people hope a and she can rebuild what has been destroyed in our country.
ReplyDeleteI choose Hillary Clinton because she is very smart and she is very active for her age. Also she wants all public schools to take school books home for free just like private schools. She also served 8 years as first lady so she has some experience in some way.
ReplyDeleteI choose Hillary Clinton . The reason I voted for her is because she wants to help lower the prices on books for school. She also very respectful, caring, and hardworking. She doesn't judge people on the color of their skin like Donald Trump. She also wants to put a end to the gun violence which we need. So these are the reasons I think she will make a good president and why I vote for her.

ReplyDeleteI choose Hilary Clinton because she has good intentions for the country. She plans to make education free for everyone in every zip code. She also wants to help teachers and train them to be better.I believe that she knows what it takes to run the country because she stood beside her husband a great while,so she should know her resposibilitys. And she will also be the first lady to run the office.

ReplyDeleteFor the mock election I chose Hilary Clinton. I chose Hilary because she is the only female to ever try to run for president and that would probably inspire more women to try to run.She plans to keep guns away from getting into the wrong hands to keep the killing rate down. She also wants to make millionaires and billionaires pay the same amount of taxes that middle-class families pay;Furthermore, she wants to let people from different countries that have family members in the U.S. visit their families.
ReplyDeleteFor this mock election i choose Hilary Clinton, the reason why is because I believe it would be nice to have a female as our president. Also another reason is the only two people who i have known of before we talked about it in English class was hilary clinton and donald trump. From what i have heard, Donald trump has given me a bad prospective of himself as president. It was said that he didn't want muslims to visit the United States but I feel as if all muslims should get punished for another's mistake.
ReplyDeleteFor the mock election, I chose Bernie Sanders because he is simply the best candidate in my eyes. He has great plans for America. He recognizes America's problems clearly and has a solution. The way America is going now, it will turn into a super-rich country, for the super-rich.
ReplyDeleteFor the mock election, which occurred in Mr. Rease's class I chose Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton is very intelligent, intellectual, and well connected. By having a ton of experience she is an excellent presidential candidate. I believe her political views will have a great effect on Americans and the economy. Also as a feminist, I think it is time for a female president. Hillary Clinton will open up many doors for not only women but for all people of every sex, race and religion.
ReplyDeleteFor the mock election i chose Ben Carson. Carson is least understood by the republicans. His opponet os Donald trump and many others.when i think of Donald Trump, l see a slow- and low-talking first-time politician who often seems entirely out of his depth on issues especially around foreign policy.

ReplyDeleteIn the mock election that took place held by Mr.Rease, I chose Benjamin Carson. Honestly one reason would be because he one of four candidates out of the democratize and republican parties that I knew. The other would be because of me being against one of the republican candidate nominees known as Donald Trump. This would be because of his actions and because of his incompetence as a presidential candidate. Not to mention his ideals are horrible when it comes to those who want to come into the country.

ReplyDeleteFor the mock election I chose Hilary Clinton. The reason I voted for Hilary was because she is a democrat and one of the only democrats I was aware of. My family has been following Hilary since the last time she ran for office. I am a more clear on her views for the country verses the other candidates.
